something is HAPPENING... or not.

I haven't had a lot of time to watch movies recently, but when I came home for the weekend last night my mom was watching the Happening so I decided I'd take a "homework break" and watch it from the beginning. Worst idea ever.

CAN I HAS TWO HOURS OF MY LIFE BACK PLS?Collapse )

And also, thoughts on the latest Office episode, Business Trip...

You are now sexy in your cultureCollapse )

I guess I should stop procrastinating now and actually be productive or something.

Is the semester over yet? :-(

procrastinating again. Surprise.

I know it's been like a month since I posted. FAIL. Actually, it's college that fails, but everyone knows that.

Not much has really happened, except for the fact that I'm still up to my eyeballs in homework, I have .41 cents in my bank account, and it started snowing Saturday. I know it's Michigan, but I was able to play tennis outdoors on Friday in my shorts, and I was comfortable. Now all my wintery items are back at home and it's freaking cold. SCREW YOU, MICHIGAN.

While there has been a ton of work lately and I've been going about every other night without sleep, the work this time has been extremely better than last year in all my classes except for one. Which is pretty good, I think, when I can actually *sort of* enjoy what I'm doing. It tells me I chose the right major, at least. The bad news is that now my nerdiness has increased exponentially now that such behavior is encouraged by my classes. I voluntarily bought a typography book last month when I was in Chicago. A book... all about type. And I found everything in it to be interesting and important to my life. MAKE IT STOP. :O

There is a house right next to where my boyfriend works that will be opening up for rent at the beginning of next month. It's a pretty nice house and the rent is really cheap because it's kind of in a crappy neighborhood, but whatever. Anyway, Kevin's moving out of his parents' house (w00t!!) and into this place next month, and I'll probably join him in the summer when I'm on break from college. I would say it's like our own little place, but his friend will be moving in with us. Which is fine, his friend is pretty cool and the house has three bedrooms so it's not like we'll be totally cramped in.

I have also been trying to keep up on my shows- I've seen all of the Office episodes this season, and I think they've been pretty great so far but I really want Pam back. I've missed a couple of CSI episodes, but I definitely caught the last one. CSI SPOILERSSSCollapse )

So since I have a sizable project due in about eight hours, I decided to do this meme, taken from fiiishy. Enjoy!

20 years ago...Collapse )

I know a lot of you have been making posts about these and it seems kind of early, but if anyone wants a holiday card from me whenever I send them out, just post your address here. I'll screen the comments in case anyone's uncomfortable sharing their info with everyone.

I hope everybody has a great week. I'm counting down the days to thanksgiving, that's for sure :-)

Soap operas? Bitch, please.

Big rant about the roommate from hell, feel free to ignore, I just need to vent.

Housing gets called again, fights ensue, and I write a post where I swear probably more than necessaryCollapse )

Sorry about the short novel, guys, but I think typing all this helped get it out of my system a little. Also, watching House tonight helped. Plus, I have new fish now and they're doing pretty well. I'll just miss Duchess, the most adorable rat ever :-(

On Temporary Hiatus.

Well, it's not like I've been posting all that much lately anyway because school owns my soul, but with many, many impending deadlines and midterms coming, I feel like it's best I try and stay away from the internet for a little while. Turns out I have a major project or paper due just about every day for the next couple of weeks. Not to mention three midterms on the same day next week.... FAIL.

Where the hell did September go, anyway? I thought I had a couple more weeks to go before all this, but apparently October 7th is only a week away, not two weeks. WHOOPS.

So I'll be back in a few weeks, maybe sooner if I don't have a nervous breakdown. In the meantime, I don't know how many of you guys have seen Spaced, but it's a really awesome show by Simon Pegg (think Shaun of the Dead) and Jessica Hynes. It's brilliant and not that long, two seasons with seven episodes each. Check it out HERE AT YOUTUBE if you're looking for something to do :-)

And I'd also like to say that the Office is crack to me right now. Angsty, beautiful, hilarious, SQUEE-worthy crack. ♥♥♥

That is all. Hope everyone has a great couple of weeks :-D

It's a pretty obvious choice, I think.

I normally don't like to do really politically involved posts, since I'm sure we're all pretty tired of them by now, but I felt like I had to share this. zoanthropic posted this e-mail he received, and while there are many more reasons why I'm voting for Obama than are mentioned here, this list gives you a pretty good idea.

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic, different.'

* If you grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you're a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack, you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* If you name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School, and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

* If you're husband is nicknamed 'First Dude', with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

Even if you're not a fan of Obama, it's at least something to think about. I'd like to do a much more detailed post using my own words about why I'm voting for him when I have the time. School has just been insane lately.

Hope everybody is having a great week :-)

CSI season 9 trailer

I don't know how many CSI fans have seen the Season Nine preview trailer yet, but if you haven't you need to watch it NOW. OMG YOU GUYS.

CUT FOR SPOILERSCollapse )

My apartment is officially quarantined. One of the roomies got sick last week, then another roomie's boyfriend, then my boyfriend, then last night I started feeling like crap. I've been taking enough Vitamin C to supplement a small country, so I hope that helps it go away faster. I'm already feeling better than I did this morning, but we'll see tomorrow, I guess. Now is definitely not a good time to be sick. :-(

RL updates and Crystal Lake photos

I've been wanting to make a post for like a week now, but the homework load sucks already. BOO. I don't totally hate my classes (yet), and Graphic Design is pretty much the shit, so I guess I can't complain too much. We even had a party thing last week with all of the "upper-class" Design majors and I met a girl who graduated from my high school three years before I did and she's still only a junior so that made me feel waayyy better about taking forever to graduate, haha. And I love how I introduce my class status now as "technically a senior, but a sophomore in the program" LOL.

The jobs I interviewed for both sent e-mails letting me know I didn't get it. It sucks, but I'm still filling out a lot of applications so hopefully *someone* will take me :-). I'm not hopelessly broke yet so I'm trying to stay optimistic.

I went to Crystal Lake Labor Day Weekend with the family and it was awesome. Except for the part when I went drunk paddle-boating and decided it was a good idea to jump off the boat in the middle of the lake and it started floating away from me. Also, those things are hard to get back in to, hehe. I'm such an idiot sometimes.

The roommate situation is crap again, but we might have a bit of a solution. The building where we're at is full so we can't move within here. However, one of my roomies e-mailed the Laker Village apartment director, which is where we lived last year, and she said she might be able to get the other three of us into an apartment together soon if we wanted to move, since she's had a couple groups of people show an interest in moving out. Which is fine by me, since the problem roomie refuses to move and I really liked the Village last year. It will be more of a walk to classes, but we'll have a backyard and a big kitchen again, and I really like that they're more like townhouses instead of apartments. Plus, I won't have to walk up three flights of stairs ten times every day or deal with the creepy elevator that sounds like it's either about to completely fall apart or taking you to hell. YAY. So it sucks that we have to move again, but I think it will be better for everyone in the long run. We're waiting to tell the other girl we're moving until we get confirmation that we'll be able to, though. Awkwaaaard.

Here's a few random pictures from the trip to Crystal Lake/Ludington.

OKAY, THERE ARE A LOT OF PICTURES. I LIED.Collapse )

Also, my mom said they finally got back the pictures from my brother's wedding so I'll have to post those sometime when I'm home and can scan them.

Hope everyone is having a good Monday. :-)

Aug. 27th, 2008

I fixed my iPOD!! Apparently all I had to do was restore it to the original factory settings, then re-sync it, fiddle around with a few things and it was no longer possessed!! YAY!!

Anyway, the roommate thing is getting mostly better. There's been a few times when I've wanted to tell her off, but it's not OMG!DRAMA anymore. I'm sure my tolerance will lessen as we get further in the semester.

My sister turned 18 yesterday, and passed her driver's test on the same day. So if you happen to be driving somewhere around West Michigan, be cautious because she's on the road now, LOL. So I called to wish her a happy birthday yesterday, and talked to my mom for a while. I feel kind of bad for her because I think she's hitting sort of a mini mid-life crisis. Last week she was freaking out because it was her birthday, and she was getting older, and my niece came to visit and she's going into FIFTH GRADE this year and she's wearing a bra already and it freaks her out. I felt so bad for Brianna, my mom kept going "You're too young for that, what are you doing wearing a BRA?!?" And Brianna was all "OMG GRANDMA!! You're embarrassing me!!" LOL. And I had to keep reminding her that my sister and I were both wearing one at that age. My mom just doesn't like her growing up that fast, I guess. Then I talked to her yesterday and she was freaking out because my sister is the "family baby," and she's 18 now and graduating this year and next year she'll (maybe, hehe) have both of us away at college and she'll be stuck with just the cat and she doesn't know what to do. So all of this plus the fact that she was just diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago is making her feel older than ever, I think, even though she's really not that old. And she's mad at me now because I'm hardly home anymore, but of course I'm not going to be, with school and all. I promised I'd go camping with her this labor day weekend, so hopefully she'll feel a little better after that.

My classes so far are pretty good. Graphic Design is going to be a TON of work, but it'll be worth it. Photography looks awesome and hopefully I'll learn how to use my Olympus camera a lot better, because right now I'm really bad at doing anything outside of the automatic functions. My two art histories, Design History and Medieval Art, are both going to be snooze-fests with way too much homework, but I'll live. And advertising is just plain weird. Our class is located in a recently built room that has some really cool capabilities, but our prof. helped design the room so he was way over-excited about it. I had to listen to an hour of "The room will allow us to do this... it will enable us to do this... the design of this room will revolutionize the way we learn...THE ROOM IS GOD," pretty much. It was slightly creepy. The class itself looks like it will be way too much work, though. Most of the people in the class are overly passionate Ad & PR majors and I'm like, "Um, this is my minor, it's pretty much a fall-back and I've hated all my other Ad & PR classes so far, so I'm not that excited." LOL.

The two jobs I interviewed for are supposed to be getting back to me within the next few days (supposedly) about whether I got the job or not. I kind of sucked at both of the interviews so I'm not too hopeful, but we'll see. Now I'm off to do some much needed laundry before I have to scamper off to photography :-)

This is a long one but I'll try and summarize this as much as possible. Two girls, we'll call them "M" & "E", I've roomed with before and we all get along well, we're able to share food, appliances, dishes, etc. just fine. "S" is a friend of M's who is living with us this year, she was over at our apartment a lot last year so I felt like I knew her pretty well. Anyway, she showed up Thursday morning and threw a fit as soon as she got here because we had done some drinking the previous night and the place was a little dirty. We all had wicked hangovers but she made poor M get up so she could lecture her. She noisily unpacked some of her stuff and left with her mom who was also carrying on about what awful roommates we were. Later on she came back and I was making a peanut butter sandwich, and she flipped the fuck out because I was using her bread. HONESTLY. I told her I was sorry, I thought it was M's. She gave me this big lengthy bitch-fest about how she's had issues with roommates in the past and so she used all her own food and dishes, etc. and was very adamant about it. Then she got all pissed because she thought I wasn't taking her seriously. DUDE, it was two pieces of BREAD. And I told her I wouldn't do it again but she was still pissed as all hell that I didn't even ask. What I really wanted to say was how she had no problem eating me, M & E's food last year when she didn't live with us but was over pretty much every day, but I kept my mouth shut. Later, when M & E left for a while and I was alone with S, she started asking me about what the other girls were saying behind her back and that she knew M was talking about her and how she always kept the place so dirty and she was going to talk to her about all of her drinking. I told her that no one was talking about her behind her back and she was being paranoid, to which she got all offended. The drama's died down a little since then but I have a feeling it's going to start up again.

Then I went home this weekend thinking I'd take a break from all the high school drama. Um, not so much. My boyfriend and I went to a local beer tent Saturday night and my brother and his friends were there. My boyfriend and I went a little overboard with the drinking, I'll admit, and we started arguing about something really stupid. Kevin let the f-bomb go a few times because he can get a bit of a temper sometimes, but it's all verbal and it's never been more than I can handle, hell, I've been known to curse him out more than a few times. Well, my brother, who is also drunk, walks by and decides he doesn't like the way Kevin is talking to me, so he goes into over-protective brother mode and starts calling him out on it. Kevin doesn't yell at him or anything, which I appreciated, but just listens as my brother pretty much tells him he's never to talk that way to me again. While I appreciate the gesture, I try to explain to my brother that it's something that rarely happens, Kevin doesn't mean it and I can handle it. Of course he doesn't believe me and thinks he has to start threatening Kevin. At this point both me and my brother's wife are thoroughly embarrassed because they're starting to make a bit of a scene. I have to grab Kevin and leave with him before things get out of control. Later that night my brother met up with us and apologized, but Kevin's still really angry and now he thinks my entire family hates him and he's being a grumpy ass about it. So now everything is nice and awkward with the boyfriend-family relations like it was when I was a teenager. FAAAIL.

I think my iPod is broken, it displays fine but it won't play anything and it keeps randomly skipping songs when I don't press buttons like it's possessed. It saddens me and kind of creeps me out a little.

And to top this wonderful weekend off I came back to campus to find that all four of my fishies had died. They seemed just fine when I left, and I have one of those automatic feeding tabs so it's not like they starved to death. I think it might have something to do with the school's tap water, I've used tap water treatment stuff at home before with no problems for ages, but I guess the stuff I used wasn't enough for whatever substances they have in the school's water. I feel like I should have known better. :-( But there was a nice toilet-side funeral in which M & E came up with sad yet amusing poetry in tribute to my fish. That's when you know you have good friends, LOL.

So now I'm not so depressed that school is starting, because I'd like to get back to some level of normalcy after all this drama and sadness, and hopefully the drama part will blow over soon enough and I'll find a way to fix my iPod, and maybe later down the road learn how to take care of living things without killing them. SOMEDAY. **sigh**

I hope everyone starting classes tomorrow is able to get through the day without getting too depressed :-)

random thoughts and events

  • Sunday was my last day at Plumb's. It was a crazy day, but now I don't have to deal with rude and bitchy people anymore :-D

  • I was channel surfing yesterday afternoon and Cell Phone Girl from the second season of Who Wants to be a Superhero was on Christina's Court, being sued by her best friend. L-O-FREAKING-L. Sadly, this event pretty much made my day XD

  • I fell off Kevin's truck yesterday (don't ask me how, I don't know) and I scraped my knee. It still stings, and itches a lot. WAY TO GO, SELF.

  • Took my mom out for lunch today for her birthday. My sister came too and it was a bit expensive, but delicious. Mmmm, mochajitos. Her birthday's always a little sad, though, because my aunt (her twin sister) died just a few years ago and it still feels a little weird celebrating without her. Mom's other numerous siblings have been calling all day to talk to us, though, which is nice since we hardly hear from any of them anymore.

  • Moving back to school tomorrow. I have some things packed and I really need to get motivated to finish up, but I'm lazy. One of my roomies who moved in early called me up yesterday to tell me how snazzy and awesome the new apartment is since I haven't seen it yet, so I'm excited about that... but not looking forward to moving all my stuff. Moving is never fun :-P

  • My sister is watching Sweeney Todd right now and I can hear it in the other room. I want to steal the DVD to bring to school but she won't let me (it's hers). FAIL.

  • I have my car back now!!! And I cleaned it out a little this morning, it was getting pretty bad since I've been practically living out of it this summer. Now I can see the backseat!!

  • I have two on-campus job interviews coming up, one on Thursday and one Friday. Hopefully I'll get one of them :-)

  • I think I kind of love Keith Olbermann. If you watch this countdown segment on MSNBC, I think you'll see why, especially if you're not a fan of John McCain.

Mmmkay... I really do need to get motivated now. I just hate packing. UGH.
